Privacy

Scentome has no accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking scripts. It keeps a few technical records to run the site, all described below.

Who runs Scentome

Scentome is run by Bisztray Software, in Ontario, Canada. Questions and requests about your information go to hello@bisztray.com.

What Scentome keeps

• Page requests. The site's own log records the time, the page address (which includes what you type into search), whether it worked, and how long it took. It does not record your IP address or browser. The server in front of the site, which handles the secure connection, may keep standard request records that include your IP address, for security and troubleshooting.
• Site health. Counts of requests per minute and how long pages took, kept in memory for 48 hours. These are totals, not records of visitors.
• Buy clicks. When you follow a Buy link, Scentome records which shop and size you went to, the country you were seeing prices for, the Scentome page you came from, whether the link was an affiliate link, and whether the click looked automated. Your IP address and browser details are not stored. Scentome uses these records to check affiliate reports and to see which shops people use.

These records are kept in Scentome's database, on a server Scentome rents, with encrypted nightly backups kept elsewhere. The server and the backups may be outside your province or country.

Cookies and storage

• country: set only when you switch between US and Canadian prices, so the site remembers your choice. It lasts a year.
• Grid size: if you change how many fragrances a list shows per row, your browser stores that choice on your device. Scentome never receives it.
• The sign-in cookies for the site's operator are set only for the operator.

Scentome sets no advertising or analytics cookies.

Other companies

• Shops. Scentome reads prices from shops' own systems from its server. Nothing about you is sent with those requests.
• Product photos. Where Scentome has not made its own image of a bottle, your browser loads the shop's photo from the shop's image server (often Shopify's). That server sees your IP address and browser, as with any image on the web.
• When you leave Scentome. Buy links take you to the shop, sometimes through an affiliate network, and Amazon links take you to Amazon. Those sites, and the networks, may set their own cookies to record that Scentome referred you, so Scentome can be paid a commission. Their privacy policies apply there, not this one. • Reddit and other sources. Links beside quoted comments open the thread or page on Reddit or the source's own site where they appeared.

Selling and sharing

Scentome does not sell personal information, and does not share it for targeted advertising, as those terms are used in US state privacy laws such as California's. Scentome does not use personal information for profiling or automated decisions about you.

People quoted on Scentome

Scentome quotes short passages from public Reddit comments and other public sources, on the page that explains each comparison, as evidence for it. Each quote names the kind of source and the month it was written, with a link to the thread or page it appeared in; it does not show the author's username. Your rights

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask what personal information Scentome holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw consent. Depending on where you live in the US, state law may give you similar rights, such as to know, correct or delete personal information. Scentome honours these requests wherever you live: write to hello@bisztray.com. Because Scentome keeps so little that identifies anyone, it may have nothing to give you; if so, it will say so.

If you are in Canada and not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

Scentome is not meant for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If what Scentome collects changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
